Cameron Mckenna

Cameron McKenna is a Chartered Building Surveyor and Farmer with over 30 years experience in both the construction and agricultural industry.

He started his farming career on a local indoor pig unit near Bury St Edmunds. Experiencing first-hand the requirement for well designed and constructed farm buildings, this was the start of Cameron’s interest in both agriculture and construction.

Cameron later attended Writtle Agricultural College and obtained a National Diploma in Agriculture with Distinction. During his year out he worked for a large farm growing cereals and sugar beet.

After obtaining his diploma he went on to work as Assistant Farm Manger for The Vesty Family on the Thurlow Estate which extends to over 15000 acres. Cameron managed the main Home Farm At Thurlow extending to 2,300 Acres of arable with an additional 150 Acres of grass, supporting a suckler cow and store beef enterprise.

After five years on the Vesty Estate Cameron went self employed and worked for a large contractor, during this time he built up a suckler herd of 110 cows renting grass on an annual licence throughout the Stour Valley, he also took on the tenancy of a small arable unit on the outskirts of The Market Town of Sudbury. Unfortunately due to the BSE outbreak in 1996 the suckler enterprise became unviable and it was with great sadness the herd was dispersed of in 1997.

Cameron attended Anglia Ruskin University where he obtained a degree in Building Surveying with Hons 2:1 whilst also working for a local civil engineering and construction company.

After completing his degree Cameron worked for a Surveying Practice where he gained his Membership to the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. Cameron provided Peter Crichton FAAV Consultancy Services of Bury St Edmunds Planning and Farming advice for over 8 years until Peters retirement in July 2021. Cameron has now been a qualified Member of the RICS for over 16 years. Cameron also holds British Occupational Hygiene society P402 Building Surveys and Bulk Sampling for Asbestos qualifications and Autocad qualifications. He is also a registered valuer.
